A Doula is a person who is trained to assist a woman during childbirth and who provides support to the family after the baby is born. Lydia uses her extensive training and experience to provide emotional, physical, and educational support before, during, and after clients’ pregnancies. She helps to create a positive environment for the mother, partner, and baby.
What are the benefits of hiring a Doula?
Lydia’s role as a Doula is to provide as much information and support to the expecting mother and family as possible. Because of her experience in the field, she has developed personal relationships with both doctors and nurses at Holmes Regional Medical Center and has witnessed countless births, each one as unique as the mother she supported. This has given her the tools to remain calm and confident during the birthing process and guide expecting mothers to have the most comfortable experience possible.
Childbirth is an extremely emotional time in a woman’s life. Lydia’s knowledge and experience allows her to answer questions about the birthing processes, explain hospital policies, help the mother feel safe and comfortable in her environment and so much more!
Doulas and Fathers
The role of a Doula is not to replace the woman’s partner. A Doula’s focus is support and education, which goes for both the expecting parents of the child. When it comes to working with the partner, Lydia offers guidance on how to be a confident and relaxed support system for the mother and child. Every family is different and as a well known and respected Doula, Lydia has offered her knowledge and experience to many new partners in the manners in which they are most comfortable.
Mothers Reveal Why They Hired Lydia
“There was a good chance our doctor was going to be out of town for the birth of our first child. As new parents, we had no idea what we were doing and we wanted a familiar face in the room with us-- someone who was on our side and could explain everything to us. Lydia made it very clear that this was our birth experience and was there to support our wishes. She was very calming and supportive of both husband and wife.” - Michelle
“Having met with several Doulas, Lydia immediately stood out. We were impressed with her knowledge and experience in assisting natural births. She also showed a strong sense of confidence that was neither vain nor judgemental; a true selling point.”- Karry
“I asked my doctor lots of questions about labor in general and alternatives to an epidural. She suggested I think about using a Doula. She said she had seen many Doulas and was impressed with Lydia because of how involved she is throughout labor. After contacting Lydia, I was impressed. She seemed to know everyone- doctors, nurses, anesthesiologists, and so many other resources. Only someone with lots of experience would know so many people! I wanted an advocate by my side on such an important day. It was the best decision. I recommend her to anyone- my best friend or stranger. People always told me that deliveries never go as planned, and that was certainly true with my experience. Having Lydia helped me understand and handle all of the unexpected occurrences that arose during my delivery.”- Heather
“I began to consider hiring a Doula once I found out we were expecting twins. The twins were our first children, and I wanted as much guidance as possible. Even though my husband is amazing and supportive, it was his first time experiencing a birth as well, and having the experience a Doula can bring was very important to me. Once we decided to hire a Doula, I felt very relieved and knew it was the right decision for us. Lydia came highly recommended from another twin mom (and I now know why). Upon receiving the recommendation, I visited the Doula website and liked her qualifications and experience. After meeting her and taking one of her classes at the hospital, we decided to officially hire her as our Doula. Luckily she was available!” -Dana
